Annual Walk: “President’s walk” The iconic landmark -known as ‘The Drip and also the Hands on the Rock area’ Leader(s): Victoria and Karen
Date: Sunday 24 November 2024
Time: 8am depart Lovejoy street carpark and re-meet ‘Hands on the Rock’ (directions below) Club Grade: Easy Distance approx 4km.
As this is one of Mudgee’s closest and more accessible area’s to walk – lets tag a fellow bushwalker and participate. No limit on numbers for this one. This is the last walk activity for 2024 on the program.
1. Hands on the Rock (short walk)
2. Enjoy a shared Morning tea (after the Hands on the Rock walk) -Travel a short distance to commence at The Drip carpark.
3. Leaders prepare equipment and brief participants before the main walk to the Drip, for an early lunch.
If you have done this walk before excellent you will then note the changing landscape. For the first timers this is definitely worth the visit.
Directions:
- Drive around 50km north from Mudgee on Ulan-Cassilis Road
- Pass by the Ulan and Moolarben coal mines and drive for another 10km
- Look for the turn-off sign for the Drip BUT travel a further 2km
- 2km past the Drip signage turn left where indicated for ‘Hands on the Rock’ locate carpark area. (shaded) ‘Hands on the Rock’ =An important Aboriginal rock art site.
- Additional info: The Drip Gorge is a significant place for the local Wiradjuri People. you will see the sandstone pagodos and spectacular after recent rain. It can be 10degrees cooler than the surround region on a hot day. The return track starts and ends at the carpark. Nice to dip/splash the feet into the quiet rockpools. Abundant plant life along the track add to the beauty. Abundance of apple gums, tree violets (named for their scent) with orchids and moss, birdlife. Bring the camera.
