Dark cloud over the old reservoir

Dark cloud over the old reservoir

By SL

A surprising number of enthusiastic walkers turned out at the twilight walk in the old Mudgee reservoir area. The participants gathered at the car park near the entrance, where the buzzing, chatting and casual conversations were not uncommon these days as members greets each other exchanging banters. Gunther, Berni and a few old faces made an appearance on the day on which they are most welcome by all.

After a short introductory speech by Jane Munro, we began tracking the path on the right side of the reservoir which used to be the water source for Mudgee town. The middle section of the reservoir was cut to allow water passing through, after the construction of Windemere. Consequently the bottom of the dam is now visible and has dried out. Passage of water is clearly observable during the walk like a street with stones of various sizes.

The storm started to build up as we approached the first mid point at which some members had returned while the rest brave the gathering of dark cloud which beginning to look like the scene in the final battle against Sauron at the black gate (see Lord of the ring).

Having reached some distance, a decision to walk back was inevitable as the cloud darkened and strong wind bent the trees. The members braced themselves and walked in groups, were experiencing light shower and storm, like those frightened students of Hogwarts in the finale of the siege by Voldemort.

Having passed the danger, thank god! The walkers rejoiced at Jane’s for a much earned supper of cakes, tea and coffee. These were banana cakes, Elly’s famous log, etc, salivating everyone and waiting to be consumed. That was a relaxing night and a nice ending of yet another adventure. Yes snuggle pots and cuddle pies, till we see you again on the next journey.
