Location: The road into the park (Mogo road) is unsealed after you leave Wollar, but good condition.  (75klm) from Mudgee.

Leader(s):  Eric Caswell

Saturday (overnight) A few bushwalkers decided to camp at the Big River camping site.          This included Joby, who hadn’t camped out for many years but who is now converted.  Big River campground is a beautiful area overlooking the river to rock walls beyond, with a grassy area under large trees and a resident population of goannas.

Sunday – Goulburn River Bush Walk: Most of the group departed Mudgee 7:30 and met up with the others at Big River camp ground.  Digger and friends; Karen, Rue, Barry, Kathy and David arrived early and cooked a gourmet breakfast, while others scrambled up and around the rocks across the river.

After morning tea 16 bushwalkers set off on Eric’s Mystery Walk. The walk was indeed mysterious, as we took a bush track that brought us out further along the river than expected, where small cliffs and embankments precluded us from descending to the water.  Instead, after lunch we made our way back through the bush and across rocks and open land, with minimal glimpses of the river.

Back at the campsite we indulged again, in afternoon tea and lizard/goanna watching.  Three Sand Monitors of various sizes idly circled our picnic area.

As we drove away one had already moved in to reclaim the picnic table by lying directly beneath it.
