WALK: Hargraves to Windeyer “Bishop’s View”
Sunday, 20 October 2019
What a great morning for our walk, so 17 of us travelled to Bishops View car park area where everyone got off except for the driver of each car who then drove to Windeyer.
Eric had kindly offered to do the car shuffle from Windeyer back to Bishops view.
A fresh breeze greeted us there while we had morning tea. We set off and soon warmed up. The walk is a fire trail through bushland. The riverbed was dry except for a few puddles. A bit uneven but an easy walk. For our purposes we rated this walk an easy to medium grade. Only one hill !!! honest!
Our lunch stop was a lovely green grassy area around the ruins of an old wattle and daub cottage. What a hard life that would have been, alongside the creek bed. (However we noted mobile reception was excellent).
Thank’s to Joby’s great memory we found the Chinese gold mine water race, within the Meroo Creek valley. A large section of the stone wall still intact. It is a mining infrastructure built from 1855 to 1865. The wall is believed to have been built by 12 Chinese men supported by a cook. For more information:
