Joby said an early start: AGAIN.
7:30 departed Mudgee from our usual meeting spot, quickly & quietly as it was a v.cool morning compared to what we had been used to. Drove past and through the very dry countryside via Bathurst and met up with Berni at Apex Park in Oberon. Berni had camped the night prior in preparing herself for her next adventure the 6 foot track.
After a very brisk morning tea with our winter weather gear ON, I found I need to test the council provided BBQ as a hand warming device.
We then drove out of Oberon for approx. 50klm which included a dirt road past a good looking camping ground Boyd Camping ground and continued a further 7klm to reach the parking bay for the start of the Kanangra Walls walk. Toilet facilities and a covered picnic area and information board at our disposal. (More like shelter from a v.cool breeze temp down to 8 degrees).
We continued with up to a six kilometres’ worth of walking along Kanangra walls Plateau, lookout walk and waterfall walk (for the keen ones), as the terrain was suitable on the day.
The views were magnificent as members peered out and over from Kanangra Walls Plateau in the distance, Mount Cloudmaker, which is often circled by mist and Mount Thurat.
Free camp sites available at Boyd River campground if wanting to get there the night before the
Members on walk. 13
Distance: Approx 3+ hours from Mudgee so worth the early start and approx. distance walked 6klm.
There are several good walks in this area with a good camping ground nearby, Jenolan Caves also close by.
Comment: Always great to see our Junior members enjoying walks with us.
