“Bushwalk 17/7/2022 Mid Winter Canyon- Glen Alice Trail, Wollemi. A chilly morning but perfect for bushwalking; a frost and blue skies greeted us as we met to car pool and get our first instructions. A drive to Rylstone for a pit stop and then down to Dunns Swamp road. The wet weather made the road a little tricky in places, we had to start our walk a couple of kilometres further out as the road became too difficult. This walk reminded me of the children’s book ‘We are going on a bear hunt’.. (no we were not hunting Bonnie,) but around every twist and turn in the track was another obstacle. We went over them, we went around them, we went under them and we even went through them. There was squishy sloshy mud, crunchy crackly branches, lots of grasses’, fences and fallen trees. Sounds pretty awful, but it wasn’t they just added to the fun of the walk. Sixteen adventurous bushwalkers enjoying the sunshine, blue skies, with the sound of water cascading over rocks and running in streams down newly created creeks. Birds twittering above and the rustle of things in the bush. Magic! 6 kilometres in we decided that time had got the better of us so we stopped and had lunch recharging our energy levels to head back to where we parked our cars. So back over, under, around and through all the obstacles again. There was plenty of time to enjoy the sight and smell of early wattle peeking through the undergrowth and to look for mushrooms and wild flowers. A section of the track was so wet and green it looked like a rainforest walk, with fine mist water falling from the overhanging rocks above. The cars appeared and a fresh cuppa and a Tim Tam awaited us. A great walk, very good company and a beautiful part of the countryside. A big thanks to the Eric for leading us and to Joby and Elly for being home base, with a shorter walk option covered. Even a stray MTB rider “Finn” from Canberra enjoyed some Tim Tam’s & a quick chat. A special thanks to the the drivers who navigated a very difficult road entry/ exit with ease. 12.5 kilometre walk. Just delightful”. (For more photos don’t forget to check out the facebook page).
