Dates: Friday 19 February- Sunday 21 February 2021. (Friday: Camp 1 night at Yarri Lake, Saturday: camp 1 night Dawson Springs).
We were promised great views and walks with time to unwind and relax and to appreciate nature in the Pilliga Nature Reserve and Mount Kaputar National Park area and surrounds: Points of Interest and area’s visited; Sandstone Caves, CSIRO Telescope Compact Array Centre before setting up camp at Yarrie Lake camp ground, for a BBQ gathering. Saturday activity; saw members drive-up the winding road to Mount Kaputar, walking the short distance from Bark Hut camp ground to overlook Eugalah Rock: we continued to stop and to explore points-lookouts along the way before setting up camp at Dawson’s Spring campground. An after-noon walk saw members explore the Lindesay Rock Tops Walk through snow gum woodland and to admire and stand on the volcanic rock formation with great views a bonus. Several non-camping members walked the Governor’s walk (large volcanic plug) past the lookout and beyond to the summit and return before descending the road to return to Narrabri (for in town comforts), while the campers enjoyed a “cooler night” in their swags. Sunday saw a perfect day for the adventures to continue: after communicating with campers & “townies”, meeting point arranged; those camping began to explore the Governor’s walk to enjoy those spectacular morning views. Others visited Sawn Rock’s. A break to remember and thank you to the Leader Bill, to Bill’s credit all the group appreciated the planning that was involved: however unforeseen things do happen and Bill had an unfortunate incident on Sunday resulting in an assisted rescue from the area to receive medical attention. We wish Bill a speedy recovery and hoping those members that attended to post a picture from the weekend on facebook so Bill can view while he recovers.
