We were a happy group of five to meet our leaders Jutta Jung and Maurice Irvine at the Merriwa Picnic Ground next to the caravan park for morning tea at 10am.
A 13km drive along Cullingral Road took us to Tullymore Shire & Clydesdale stud.
What a great sunny day to explore the 300 acres of country. A short drive on the back of the ute took us from the gate across the river to the barn were the walk started.
We were greeted by a big shire stallion in one paddock and mares with foals in an other.
The track took us along grassy paddocks to bush and rocks with many interesting caves. The herd of horses spotted us and came cantering to see who and what we were. We found rocks with river pebbles embedded. The line showed where the water may have been so many, many years ago. Climbing over the top we admired the view of the other side and eventually decided on a beautiful shady spot for lunch. Heading back we walked along the gully with interesting erosions carved into the red soil by flood water. We arrived at our cars (on the back of the ute ) about 2.35pm after a most enjoyable 7.5 km walk .
