Decorating the outside of houses at Christmas has become more and more popular over the years and, with some becomes quite competitive. The northern hemisphere benefits from the dark evenings when festive lights come into their own by mid to late afternoon. Darkness comes later here in Australia, so one has occupy oneself until such time as the natural light fades. There’s nothing better that “a bit of a BBQ”.
James and Christine Volk generously opened their garden to 30 club members for a shared meal. Participants provided salads and desserts, whilst James showed his skills with the BBQ. A passing, and very angry looking, storm cell over Mt. Frome threatened to interrupt the enjoyment but that’s all it was, “passing”.
As darkness fell and the first course completed, most went for a wander around the local streets. For those who have visited this “neck of the woods” in previous years, one surely noticed how householders have added to and developed their displays, most with serious design intentions.
Not surprisingly, the circular route took us back to the garden and dessert. Such choices! As with all these types of gatherings, what might be a simple meal becomes a sumptuous feast.
Thank you to everyone, especially James and Christine for making it a fabulous evening.
