The township of Wallerawang hid for cover as almost 100 cyclists hit the pavement to assist in raising funds to go towards Prostate and Breast Cancer support groups. Approximately 18-20 participants were from Mudgee. The idea was to ride to the distance that each participant felt comfortable with and the aim was 95 kms. Yes it was all tar but a difficult course due to the ascending terrain. At least you could return the same way.
The start of the ride (not a race) but social ride was from the Wallerawang Bowling club onto Pipers Flat Road and left onto John Mackie Drive; then onto Sunny Corner Road and over, that well known to locals, Garlands Hill to Meadow Flat, through Sunny Corner and right onto Dark Corner Road; then left onto West Mitchell Road to Yetholme and return.
Question now remains what is in the Mudgee water???
Mudgee Bushwalking Club Inc & Bike Riders had the oldest male and also the oldest and cutest female participant!!! John Hather and Joy Proctor will now be even safer while riding with their new helmets ON! Congratulations !!
Special thank-you to Ivy Higgs who encouraged members to commit their dollars and assisted with the on-line bookings.
All participants were entitled to a light lunch and also received prizes for participating. A Pinarello bike, worth $4000, was on offer as a ‘lucky draw’ – unfortunately the Mudgee contingent missed out – perhaps next year!
