Sunday 20 June 2021.
Totnes Valley Walk captured by Colleen Lovell. “Sunday 20 June turned into a beautiful day, fun company and great country to walk through. The day started with a morning cuppa at the beautiful house of Joe & Sheila’s. Once (21) gathered their backpacks, after a walk briefing Joe began the walk by heading up a hill at the back of the property (up is an understatement), bit like the comment ‘just around the corner’. After zigzagging up the hill with a few stops on the way, the view from the top was worth it. After bush-bashing for a while we found the ‘power towers’ which led to the fire trail known as the Barigan West Fire Trail. We meandered on the top of the ridge another gently ‘up and down’ walk with lots of flora & fauna, and members laughter along the way. Taking a detour we then ventured into an area where beautiful rock facades, green moss and purple mushrooms. The perfect spot for lunch, due to a convenient fallen tree to provide seating for most of the group. A few ‘tail end charlies’ back of the group pack had fun taking photos of hands on (textured) trees. Even a tree hug was warranted there. The fire trail joined the main road and hence we headed back to starting point, for tea & scones”. Distance walked: 10km. Another smaller group of (5) took the shorter walk option to the valley end and down the valley track, back in time to support the main group on their return. A further 2 members returned home while the other 2 took in the valley views. A multitude of great photos from the day can be viewed on the club’s facebook page. Thank you to the all who participated. See you on the 4 July 2021 for the next walk: J. Mitchell.
