Walk Report: Colleen Lovell Walk Leader(s): Johanna (Joby) & John Mitchell and with Colleen Lovell.
“The usual meet at Robertson Park to check in and organise the cars and off to pick up some more members at Capertee, where we all stopped for a much enjoyed cuppa. One of our members, Jenny Macnaughton was celebrating her birthday today and she chose to spend it with us. We all sang happy birthday to her as we enjoyed a good supply of cake. (Morning tea is always a good spread) A short drive and a few instructions regarding the walk we started navigating the muddy entrance and headed up the slight slope towards the peak. The first section, although uphill was easy this changed gradually and the uphill, became steeper and rocky. A very unkept route was navigated with numerous stops on the way to admire the view, find mushrooms or just catch one’s breath. Once we got to the top the walking was much easier, we traversed the top via a track, only in name, with sheer rock walls on our right and a sloping drop on the other, it was easy to follow as the options were limited. We came out to a wide plateau area with wonderful views down the valley towards Capertee with the Castlereagh Highway running below. From the other side of the plateau you looked towards Capertee Valley, sounds of bell birds floated up from the trees below. After a leisurely lunch we started our walk back, across the top in the other side of the rocky outcrop still very much bush bashing our way between the rock and the drop. We slowly descended and rejoined our original track. A great walk 5 kilometres in total a big thanks the Joby our leader, John who found the track, and didn’t lose any of us, and to the 25 walkers who enjoyed the amazing bush walk with us all”
