WALK: Mt Airly – Capertee

WALK: Mt Airly – Capertee

AUGUST WALK – SUNDAY 18 AUGUST 2019

WALK: Mt Airly – Capertee area.
Description: After a shared morning tea 17 members and visitors: made their way up (1020metres) on a good fire trail to the gap (approx. time 45mins for Joby anyway!) to explore and view the Genowlan Trig, the “grotto” & beyond along the Genowlan trail. Lunch was spent enjoying the views amongst the pagodas; walk distance approx. 8klm for some & much further for others; especially for Tom & Feroz.  This area has so much more to explore but alas today we ran out of daylight. Leaders for the day were John & Joby. Report by Joby.
Photos: Leo, Colleen, Karen.

NOTE: What is a “Grotto”? A cavern, cavity, chamber, den, hollow, antre, subterrane; in this case Mt Airly’s grotto once held water; water flowed through a narrow cavity (between two pagodos) and when sufficient water flowing once had a waterfall, hence the vegetation of large ferns, and damp moss on the rocks and trees to suit. alas on this visit no running water evident. John & myself a few years back visited this area and observed flowing water and very wet underfoot and a waterfall.
