Yes another early morning: 7:30am departing Mudgee on a very brisk -4 degrees. Guaranteeing a fine day.
After meeting up with members at Capertee and at Lithgow -members dared the Glow Worm Tunnel Road with not a pot hole missed by the Leader. Arriving at the allotted point from Alex’s notes and another check using her strava as a guide for the track to the canyon, and morning tea consumed. 15 members took to the track and headed to canyon. Great pagoda formations and large tree ferns to keep the camera’s flashing.
Going was good until some tried a descent and some retraced their steps to locate another descent to suit our agility – thank you to those that helped us down, just to be safe.
Through the canyon the debris from trees overhead created great sustenance for the tree ferns. The rock formation as we walked through was exhilarating – it was a dry creek bed, with easy walking it then opens up where track then leads to a small area where you have views overlooking the Wolgan Valley, and Emirates Resort.
We were fortunate to have shared parts of the canyon walk from some ex-Sydney Uni bushwalkers.
The distance (length) of the canyon -forgot to measure and unable to find its distance on-line so more than happy to go back & do it all again. lol.
Note: To locate this Canyon: Starts 3.3km north of the road intersection of Glowworm Tunnel Road and Old Coach Road. A 700m track in westerly direction leads to this canyon. How was it named: As part of the TAFE Outdoor Guide course, c1984, students explored this canyon. They collectively decided to call it Nobles Canyon, after two members of the group, Olive and John Noble. Ref: Correspondence with Olive Noble, 25th March 2010. Also known as Wolgan View Canyon and Dry Canyon. An easy, dry canyon, close to Glowworm Tunnel Road. Car park GR 409 166.
